Children's Apperception Test (CAT)

Evaluate children's personality with the Children's Apperception Test (CAT), a downward extension of the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). CAT measures aspects of personality, including level of reality testing and judgment, control and regulation of drives, and degree of autonomy. Composed of 10 drawings of animals, the test is based on the theory that children identify more readily with animal figures than human figures. A supplement, CAT–S, features a set of 10 irregularly shaped pictures of animals for further exploration of tension. Another version, CAT–H, features drawings of humans and was designed for use with older children and in research.

The Children's Category Test® (CCT®) offers multiple uses in measuring the complex intellectual functioning of higher-order cognitive abilities. CCT is appropriate for use in combination with intellectual and academic achievement tests and is an ideal nonverbal task to be administered independently or during the California Verbal Learning Test®—Children's Version's (CVLT®–C) delayed recall section. Get an informative depression profile with this quick instrument. The Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) presents 27 self-rating items for school-aged children and adolescents with at least a first-grade reading level. For each item, examinees choose one of three sentences that best describes their experience in the past two weeks. The respondent records selections on a QuikScore™ scoring sheet, then the examiner totals and plots responses onto the profile form. In addition to the Total Depression Score, CDI measures five empirically developed factors: Negative Mood, Interpersonal Problems, Ineffectiveness, Anhedonia, and Negative Self-Esteem.

Get a brief, easy-to-administer, standardized test of short-term memory. The Visual Aural Digit Span Test (VADS) is designed to serve as part of an assessment of school-aged children with suspected or known learning disabilities. VADS consists of four subtests in which numeric sequences involving the digits 1 through 9 are used as stimuli. The child orally repeats or writes the sequences from memory. The first subtest requires oral repetition of orally presented digits. In the second subtest, the child must orally repeat digits that are presented visually.
