Benefits
- Provides thorough coverage of reading readiness, basic skills, and comprehension
- Two forms make it easy to test and retest
- Wide age range allows you to test young children to older adults
Meet Reading First criteria with WRMT-R/NU
The mandates of the federal Reading First initiative ask teachers to spend more time on diagnostic assessment of their students' skills to form instructional plans. The Woodcock Reading Mastery Tests-Revised-Normative Update (WRMT-R/NU) gives you a test battery with a proven record of accuracy with target grade levels. Based on scientific research and tested with years of actual classroom use, the WRMT-R/NU helps you:
- Identify specific children's strengths and weaknesses in reading skills
- Ascertain students' difficulties and their root causes so that you can plan targeted remediation
- Determine the reading strategies so that students with special needs can get needed help learning to read
More diagnostic power with a wide array of scores
The Woodcock Reading Mastery Test-Revised-Normative Update provide an expanded interpretive system and age range to help you assess reading skills of children and adults. Two forms, G and H, make it easy to test and retest, or you can combine the results of both forms for a more comprehensive assessment.
Form G
Two readiness tests and four tests of reading achievement:
- Visual-Auditory Learning
- Letter Identification (and a Supplementary Letter Checklist)
- Word Identification
- Word Attack
- Word Comprehension (Antonyms, Synonyms, Analogies)
- Passage Comprehension
Form H
Four tests of reading achievement with parallel test items to Form G:
- Word Identification
- Word Attack
- Word Comprehension (Antonyms, Synonyms, Analogies)
- Passage Comprehension
Vocabulary measured in content areas
Reading vocabulary, measured by the Word Comprehension test, may be evaluated in four areas: General Reading, Science-Mathematics, Social Studies, and Humanities. WRMT-R includes practice items and training procedures to help you administer the test to younger children.
The complete kit also includes an audiocassette with pronunciation guides for Word Attack and Word Identification items in each form.
Optional WRMT-R materials
G+H Summary Record Form allows you to summarize and combine Form G and Form H derived scores when both forms of the WRMT-R have been administered.
Report to Parents
Helps you explain student performance to parents with space for making recommendations.
Normative update
Based on a national sampling of over 3,000 people, WRMT-R provides accurate score comparisons for reading decoding and reading comprehension with the other achievement batteries with which it was conormed: K-TEA/NU and PIAT-R/NU. You gain added flexibility with this conorming because you can substitute a subtest from a different battery if a subtest is spoiled or if additional diagnostic information is desired.
Comparison of updated and original norms
Approximately eleven years separate the data-collection periods for the original WRMT-R norms and the NU norms. Overall, comparison of the NU and original norms indicates little change in the level of performance of students who are average to above average for their grade or age, but a decline in the performance of students who are below average. Detailed descriptions of the changes for individual tests and clusters are provided in the NU Manual and the NU ASSIST User’s Guide.
The practical result of these changes is that where student performance has improved, NU normative scores (standard scores and percentiles) will be lower than on the original norms; and where performance has declined, NU normative scores will be higher.
